Bruce High Quality Foundation: Ode to Joy, 2001 to 2013
If in New York this weekend, head to Brooklyn Museum to check out the new Bruce High Quality Foundation exhibition Ode to Joy, 2001 to 2013. Known for its subversive yet humorous works, the Bruce High Quality Foundation is an anonymous art collective that looks to reframe the relationship between artists and the public. Ode to Joy, 2001 to 2013 is a retrospective of over 50 pieces of art including installations, live performances and films. Be warned, lines between reality and fiction are blurred – the art collective itself was created around the fictional character of Bruce High Quality who supposedly died in 2001.

Yun-Kyung Jeong: The Arcadian State
The Sumarria Lunn Gallery in London’s Mayfair hosts Korean artist Yun-Kyung Jeong’s solo exhibition this weekend. Her paintings combine tranquil elements from eastern traditions with architectural shapes inspired by neo-Gothic buildings – the contours of a waterfall could just as easily be a cathedral’s arch. The paintings provide us with a peephole into a world of many layers while retaining a sense of lightness. The perfect antidote to a heavy week.

Paradise: Faith, directed by Ulrich Seidl
Austria seems to be making a name for itself as the epicentre of German-language film excellence recently and director Ulrich Seidl’s second instalment of his Paradise trilogy, Faith, which got the judges attentions in Cannes and Venice last year. The film is being released to UK cinemas this weekend, while the first part Paradise: Love was released last month and the third in the series, Paradise: Hope will be available in August. So make sure to keep up and see the story of Anna Maria, a Viennese X-ray technician on her pilgrimage across the city. A religious film with a distinctly urban, macabre flavour, Paradise: Faith will definitely get you thinking.

Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion
Japanese designers have been transforming the world of fashion since the early 1980s when creatives such as Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto broke then-existing western moulds with their stark monochrome, asymmetric and perforated dresses. Housed in Seattle Art Museum, Future Beauty presents 80 gowns ranging from classic to avant-garde pieces with videos of fashion shows and artists’ photographs alongside each garment to tell the creative journey of each design.

Pitch Music Festival
This Saturday, Amsterdam’s Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek – a former gasworks now converted into parklands west of the city centre – is the venue for Pitch music festival. The second day of the event that started yesterday features performances from hotly tipped UK newcomers AlunaGeorge, leftfield US hip-hopper Daedelus, and the arty take on techno that is Berlin’s Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, as well as crowdpleasing headliners Disclosure. With one outdoor stage and five indoor venues that include the cavernous Gashouder – built over a century ago – the surrounding greenery in the sunshine is likely to be as big a draw as the bands.
