EXHIBITION: DÜSSELDORF

Tomás Saraceno: In Orbit

Visitors can walk over and sit within Argentinean artist Tomás Saraceno’s new work “In Orbit” – a gigantic wire-mesh installation suspended 25 metres above the internal piazza of the K21 Ständehaus museum. With half a dozen “spheres” (inflated 8.5-metre PVC globes) also battling for room, Saraceno’s immense pieces are designed to go beyond initial sensations of surprise and pure visual impact, asking questions about how individuals encountering them interact with one another. And if you’re concerned about walking on wires 25 metres above the ground, don’t be. Saraceno trained as an architect, too.

K21 Ständehaus, Ständehausstr 1, 40217. Open Tuesday to Friday 10.00-18.00; Saturday and Sunday 11.00–18.00. Until Autumn 2014.
