This weekend’s highlights include a new hotel in sunny Mykonos, a craft fair at London’s Saatchi gallery and a Montreal-inspired deli in New York.
1. TRAVEL: MYKONOS
—San Giorgio Hotel
If you are looking for a unique luxury escape in Mediterranean terrain, the second beachside project of the Design Hotels group after their Mexican getaway in Tulum last year, is a collaboration with nightlife organisation Paradise club in Mykonos. Opening its doors this weekend, San Giorgio Hotel is an ode to Greek style with organically-honed white exteriors and simple 1960s-inspired bohemian design on the inside that’s befitting of an effortless beachside retreat. Located between the pristine beaches of Paranga and Paradise, the hotel is also a handy 10-minute dash from the airport.

Organised by UK Crafts Council, Collect – the International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects is hosted for the fourth consecutive year in the Saatchi Gallery. The exhibition features artists from 31 international galleries such as Germany’s Galerie Rosemarie Jäger, Norway’s Galleri Format, and Japan’s Yufuku, who will occupy the first floor space. On the floor above are selections of finely crafted textiles and furniture. Practical, inspiring, the way all good design should be.

3. ART FAIR: SAO PAULO
—SP-Arte
If in São Paulo this weekend, make sure you check out the SP-Arte fair – one of the most important art events in Latin America. Held at Oscar Niemeyer’s modernist biennial building at Parque do Ibirapuera, the eighth edition features 110 local and international galleries and is a meeting point of artists, collectors and buyers from around the world. If simply perusing rather than buying, be sure to stop by the stand for Livraria da Travessa – the charming bookshop from Rio de Janeiro is bringing a well-curated selection of art and design books.
Pavilhão Ciccillo Matarazzo, 2222 Parque do Ibirapuera, Portão 3. Open Saturday and Sunday 12.00-20.00

4. FOOD: NEW YORK
—Mile End Delicatessen
In Manhattan, Mile End Delicatessen has just opened the doors of its second lunch spot after the success of its Brooklyn shop, this time on Bond Street in NoHo. In addition to the more ubiquitous standards of the traditional Jewish deli, Mile End shows distinctive French-Canadian provenance in the form of decadent poutines – a typical Québécois dish made with fries, cheese curds and gravy. It’s hard to go wrong with the sandwiches but we’ll recommend the beef on weck, a tasty combination of Wagyu beef and horseradish on a weck roll.
53 Bond St near Bowery. Tel: 212 529 2990. Open daily 10.00-22.00
5. MUSIC: GLOBAL
—Brian Jonestown Massacre – Aufheben
The musical moniker of Californian psychedelic savant Anton Newcombe, the BJM actually contain no Rolling Stones whatsoever. But the band’s revolving-door line-up and Newcombe’s magpie-eye for all the best bits of melodic jangle-pop have kept things interesting for the BJM since forming in San Francisco in the mid-1990s. Aufheben was recorded in Berlin and adds some of the droning, repetitive Krautrock influences of that city to the mix, as well as some breathy Finnish vocals from singer Eliza Karmasolo. It confirms that old adage – good artists borrow, great artists steal.
Aufheben is available in record shops now
