The Only Son pop-up store
This weekend, look no further than the first floor of the Siam Center in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district for The Only Son’s latest collection. The Thailand-based clothing label has recently opened its first pop-up within the 979 store. Combining a minimal, utilitarian approach with signature asymmetrical cuts, the selection of unisex clothing and jewelry will be on sale until the end of June.

The Mind's Eye – L’Imaginaire d’après nature
Chanel Nexus Hall in Tokyo’s Ginza district is showing 54 of the best photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson taken between the 1930s and 1970s. Born in 1908, the French genius of the camera transformed photography from a means of documentation into art through a number of groundbreaking works that paved the way for modern photographic techniques. This retrospective of original prints is curated by the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson of Paris.

The Man with the Jazz Guitar
Now out on DVD is The Man with the Jazz Guitar – an animated documentary about British jazz musician and radio broadcaster Ken Sykora, directed by Marc Mason. Although revered for his musical mastery there is virtually no footage of Sykora, who performed live and on radio from the 1950s onwards, so the Mason decided to create an animated version of the guitarist. This, together with a soundtrack filled with superb recordings make a feel-good biopic that is a fittingly off-beat tribute to an overlooked talent.
The Man with the Jazz Guitar is now out on DVD.

Zed Nelson: In This Land
The Noorderlicht Photogallery will be exhibiting In This Land from this weekend, a new project about Israel by celebrated photographer and Monocle contributor, Zed Nelson. The project probes the scarred psyche of a nation who live in the omnipresent shadow of conflict. Nelson made a series of visits to the country focusing his images not on the well-documented aggression in the region but instead on how the land itself is so deeply embedded in the identity of its people.

Ducktails: The Flower Lane
Matt Mondanile is one fifth of charmingly sleepy New Jersey slacker-pop act Real Estate, now going solo under the Ducktails moniker. Despite that throwaway name taken from a dated Donald Duck spin-off cartoon, Mondanile crafts an altogether more polished act on his own. The Flower Lane takes the breezy, barely there melodies of Real Estate and adds some sturdy synth and1980s production values with a tight backing to create a smooth and accessible sound (are we allowed to say “soft rock”?). It might one day see him stand out more prominently than his Real Estate bandmates. That name might even help.
