Is Sudan’s devastating civil war close to ending?
Sudan’s military claims that it is close to recapturing the country’s capital, Khartoum, from rebel forces and is billing the progress as a major turning point in the two-year civil war. But not everyone is convinced. Even if Khartoum is recaptured, it leaves Sudan effectively split in two with much of the west still controlled by rebel forces. Meanwhile, the African Union has just labelled the conflict the world’s worst humanitarian disaster.

Why Denmark’s left is pursuing record-low asylum
Denmark has this week announced that the number of asylum seekers entering the country has reached a historic low. It’s a record put down to the anti-immigration platform of the country’s prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, since coming to power in 2019. But what’s interesting is that Frederiksen hails from the centre-left Social Democrats, not the far-right typically associated with a hard line on immigration.
