Handmade exclusively for Monocle in Yamanaka Onsen – a region renowned for its lacquerware – this Yamanaka-shikki cup reflects centuries-old craftsmanship. Showcasing Japanese precision and tradition, this cup set is carved from 100 per cent zelkova wood, prized for its lightweight, robust and scratch-resistant qualities. Each piece has been treated with multiple layers of natural lacquer, sourced from rare lacquer trees, to enhance durability while accentuating the wood’s natural wavy grain.
